Ιωάννης Μεταξάς (εκοιμήθη στις 29 Ιανουαρίου 1941)
Υπήρξε ανώτατος αξιωματικός του Ελληνικού Στρατού και στη συνέχεια πρωθυπουργός και δικτάτορας (1936-1941). Έλαβε μέρος στους Βαλκανικούς πολέμους και το 1917 εξορίστηκε στην Κορσική. Με την επιστροφή του ίδρυσε το κόμμα των Ελευθεροφρόνων, το οποίο κατάφερε πολλές φορές να εισέλθει στη Βουλή συγκεντρώνοντας όμως χαμηλά ποσοστά. Το 1936, κατόπιν διαφόρων συγκυριών, διορίστηκε Πρωθυπουργός της Ελλάδας, στη θέση του αποβιώσαντος Δεμερτζή και στη συνέχεια πρωτοστάτησε στην επιβολή του δικτατορικού "καθεστώτος της 4ης Αυγούστου", κυβερνώντας έως το θάνατό του το 1941. Έμεινε στην ιστορία για την αρνητική απάντηση που έδωσε στο Ιταλικό φασιστικό τελεσίγραφο της 28ης Οκτωβρίου 1940 και για την ταχεία πολεμική προπαρασκευή της Ελλάδας ενόψει του ελληνοϊταλικού πολέμου και της γερμανικής εισβολής στην Ελλάδα. Ως στρατιωτικός είχε διαδραματίσει σημαντικό ρόλο στους Βαλκανικούς πολέμους και στον λεγόμενο Εθνικό διχασμό.
